Why I don't offer SEO services to my clients.
SEO services are one of the most important services that a website owner will require, because of course, what is the point of a website if no one knows it's there? So it stands to reason that because I offer web design and development services, that I'd also want to offer SEO, right?
Well, not necessarily! One of the most important lessons a business owner can learn is to focus on doing one thing, and doing it well. Spreading yourself too thin is the quickest way to ensure that your core business doesn't get the attention that it needs to grow and prosper.
There's also specific differences between web development and SEO services that make them a challenging fit for the same team to deliver. Web development is reactive in nature - project comes in, we build it and launch it, off it goes. SEO, on the other hand, is highly PROactive. The client doesn't come to you and say "can you generate an SEO report for me please", you're the one that needs to go to them report in hand, and with the insights and advice that go along with it.
Running both of these business models with the same team of staff is almost impossible. What happens is this: they're kept nice and busy with the REactive stuff, and because the PROactive stuff isn't as time critical, it never gets done. The only way to effectively offer both services is to have two entirely separate teams!
Finally, by deliberately NOT offering SEO services, it gives me a great opportunity to partner with agencies who ONLY offer SEO services. Finding like-minded businesses to partner with is always a challenge, but it's one of the key strategies to long term success for businesses of any size.
